Kuah A thriving town with many duty-free shops and handicraft centres. This main commercial hive of Langkawi is quickly expanding as old wooden buildings make way for concrete developments. Being close to the Thai border there are a lot of cheap imported products. Kuah has several good restaurants serving Malay and Indian dishes as well as Chinese style seafood. With shuttle vans and taxis it is easy to get from your resort or hotel.
Dataran Lang Situated near the Kuah Jetty, Dataran Lang is know as Eagle Square due to the 18m tall marble eagle it has as its centre piece. In the same area are an amphitheatre, two covered terraces, two restaurants and various tableau's giving information on the legends of the island.
Taman Lagenda All the famous legends of Langkawi are portrayed within several buildings in this picturesque garden of plants, flowers and fruit trees. Visitors can walk through to learn about Mahsuri the mythical princess, the field of burnt rice and how various districts in Langkawi got their names. There are also some fine examples of traditional Malaysian handicraft on display.
Kota Mahsuri Located 12km northwest of Kuah and marks the spot where Mahsuri was buried. In the area are several souvenir shops and a kampung house containing ancient artefacts.
Galeria Perdana Located at Kilim the Galeria is around 10km from Kuah and houses an impressive collection of over 2500 state gifts and awards presented to the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and his wife.
Oriental Village Overlooking beautiful Burau Bay the village is one of Langkawi`s newest and most unique shopping, cultural and culinary destinations. Specially designed to provide a new concept in resort duty-free shopping. It also contains fine themed restaurants reflecting Asia's culinary delights. With 470 outlets and 17,000 plus products, the village offers a bewildering range of international designer labels and local products.
Underwater World Situated along the Pantai Cenang the Underwater World is one of the largest aquariums in Asia. It has 15m.long walk through a tunnel from which you can view more than 5000 kinds of marine life in over 100 tanks. It also houses a duty free complex.
Laman Padi A museum that offers an insight into many activities and implements involved in the cultivation of padi.
Ayer Hangat Villiage The village is a cultural entertainment complex built around the Telaga Ayer Hangat or hot springs. The village has day long cultural activities for visitors to get involved in such as making handicraft, planting padi and playing some sport or learning traditional dances. The hot springs have 3 tiers with varying temperatures for those who feel like having a dip.
Cable Car A cable car will take you to the top of Mount Mat Cincang, the second highest peak in Langkawi. On clear days you can see parts of Thailand in the north and Indonesia towards the southwest.
Pulau Payar Marine Park Located 30km south of Langkawi and an hour's speedboat ride is the fantastic marine park of which Pulau Payar is the largest island. As well as an underwater observation chamber it is a good area for snorkelling or taking rides in glass bottomed boats
Pental Pasir Hitam 2km west of Tanjung Rhu you will find the black sand beaches of Pental Pasir Hitam.
