Lemanak River Safari And Longhouse Tour in Sarawak
2 days/1 night departs daily at 8:30 am
Iban hospitality is legendary and visitors are guaranteed a good time. A longhouse is basically a long street of separate dwellings covered by one roof, under the authority of a Headman.
Day 1 You will be collected from your hotel in Kuching city at 8.30 am for the 41/2 hour scenic drive to Batang Ai jetty. Enroute stop at Dayak trading town and a Chinese Farm to see how pepper and Cocoa are grown. Lunch is at Lachau village. Upon arrival at the jetty, take a pleasant journey to the Longhouse by motorised longboat, passing rice fields and fish farms.
You will receive a warm welcome by the natives and will enjoy their welcoming ritual and culture dances, followed by a tour of the longhouse. Watch the natives at work, making mats, baskets, handicrafts and mending fishing nets.
After your Longhouse tour, you will have the opportunity to swim in the river or simply relax until dinner. This involves a social gathering and cultural performance in the longhouse with the headman and natives.
Stay the night in a small guest house at the Longhouse.
Day 2 After breakfast you will be treated to a blowpipe demonstration, followed by a longboat trip up the river, stopping enroute to collect jungle produce. Take a guided jungle walk to learn about the forest and visit a waterfall for lunch. Drift back down the river by poling and paddling in the clear water to reach the jetty and then return by coach to Kuching City with lunch enroute.
