Pangkor can be found just off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, accessible by a short ferry ride from Lumut or a flight from Kuala Lumpur. It is an island of 25,000 inhabitants and eight square kilometres, an ideal size for exploring by car, bike or on foot. The quiet coastal roads pass popular beach areas such as Teluk Nipah and Teluk Ketapang (where sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs) while the tropical forest interior remains an exotic mystery to all but the most intrepid. If you leave your beach resort in the evening and head into the main fishing settlement of Pangkor Town, you'll find some of the best seafood Malaysia has to offer.
