Sarawak Borneo, Malaysia
Situated on the North Western coast of Borneo, the land of hornbills, intricate rivers and peppers beckons the visitor with its rich rainforests and diverse lifestyles of its indigenous people. It is the largest state in Malaysia with Kutching, which means 'cat' in Malay as its state capital. Sarawak shares its boundaries with Kalimantan (Indonesia) in the south and Brunei and Sabah in the north. Two thirds of Sarawak's land is under rainforest and is made up of 23 ethnic groups. Being the national emblem the hornbill is a protected bird. Oil and liquefied natural gas is a rich natural resource of the state.
