Kutching The capital of Sarawak is located on the banks of the Sarawak River, 32km`s from the sea. The town has landscaped parks and gardens, elegant colonial buildings, colourful markets and a bustling waterfront. Within the water front area is a hawker centre with handicraft shops. In Kutching places worth visiting are The Court House, General Post Office, Square Tower, Fort Margherita, Sarawak Museum, State Mosque, Tua Pek Kong Temple, Kuek Seng Ong Temple, The Pavillion and just out of Kutching is the Santubonb Fishing Village and Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for orang utans, monkeys, honey bears and horn bills.
Gunung Mulu National Park The caves within the park are open to the public and offer various degrees of difficulty. The Deer Cave, Water Cave, Lagang's Cave, Pinnacle Cave and Drunken Cave can be explored by novices without using any equipment There are many caves which can only be explored with climbing equipment and they include the world's biggest rock chamber.
Wrejang river A trip up Sarawak's longest river normally starts from Sibu to Kapit passing through the riverine settlements of Kanowit and Song. The region is mainly occupied by the Ibans. One hour up from Kapit is the tumultuous Pelagus Rapids. After the rapids is Orang Ulau territory. Travellers can conclude their journey at Belaga where the nomadic Penan often come to trade.
River safaris Rivers are a way of life in Sarawak and in many areas provide the only means of travel. The rainforest encroaching on the rivers edge and many tribal longhouses along the way make journeys down these rivers a unique experience.
