Tour of Borneo - Turtle Caves and Wildlife

If you only do one tour in Borneo,we recommend that you do this one as you will see some of the highlights of Borneo - Gomantong Caves, Kinabatangan River & Sukau, Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary and a city tour of Sandakan.The sights are all around Sandakan so you need to take a short 40 minute flight from Kota Kinabalu first which we have included in the cost of our tour.

Day 1 Transfer from your City hotel in Kota Kinabalu for an early flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the jetty to board the boat to Libaran Island for a village walk with your nature guide followed by lunch. Afterwards, transfer to Turtle Island by speedboat. Check into your chalet (basic facilities) and spend the afternoon at leisure swimming, snorkelling or exploring this tiny island. After dinner enjoy watching the turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. See the whole process of transferring them to the hatchery. You may even have the opportunity to hold and release some baby turtles back in the sea. Overnight in your chalet.

Day 2 At 6.30am depart Turtle Island for Libaran Island where breakfast is served. Depart for Sandakan and arrive at 8.15am. A two hour drive will bring you to the Gomantong Caves to see the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah and how the locals harvest it into a local delicacy. Continue on to Sukua River Lodge at Sukau. Check in and have lunch, followed by a river cruise to view Proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay. (Basic accommodation).

Day 3 After breakfast, return to Sandakan and proceed to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary to witness the feeding and rehabilitation programmes of the Orang Utans. In the afternoon return to the Sabah Hotel for lunch followed by a city tour of Sandakan before your flight back to Kota Kinabalu. Arrive at 6pm.
